And I thought I was tired last week. This week, things ramped up a bit for me in the exhaustion department, both mentally and physically. Mentally, because things are still going on, as we just came through Week 19. Physically, because of some difficulties laying backer board for tile on Monday afternoon/night, and injuring myself multiple times with the hammer, plus having to pound the floor with the hammer to get the screws to go the rest of the way into the floor. It was a nightmare. That whole day was a nightmare. And only the last part of it had anything to do with the house.
The rest of the week had me mentally aching from what hit us on Monday, and physically aching all over from just Monday night, but as far as what happened during the rest of the days, the big news was that our hardwoods got sanded and finished for the new space. That took the better part of 3 days this week, and the floors look great. The electricians were also back, building our new service panels outside as well as upgrading our service to the panel in the basement. Basically w are upgrading our service from 20 or 220, to 225 (whatever that means), and they are splitting up the panels so that one panel is not overloaded with circuits. The power amongst the entire house will be more evenly distributed. On Monday of next week, we should be saying goodbye to our temporary pole out back, which was literally the first physical sign of this job taking place. That was MONTHS ago.
Then on Friday, the other big thing happened, which was the removal of THE ZIPPER DOORS! This was both exciting and weird, as we have been living as the “couple in the bubble” for 3 months plus and were getting quite sick of zipping through plastic doors to get to anywhere in our house. However, we have also been VERY grateful to Brooks for suggesting them, as they have done a fabulous job of dust and debris containment. They really made a world of difference.
Then, today was moving day—or rather, moving back in day, as we borrowed some manly muscle to help us move heavy furniture pieces back into the rooms we had them moved out of back in May I think. That was another big moment, when furniture started to go back to the rooms from whence they came, and some of it went to an all new room, like Kristi’s desk and workstation, which found its new home in her office. Tile also went down today in the laundry room, with the fabulous Dennis Graham helping me with the tough cuts in a few places in the room. While he and Josh Smith were moving our heavy furniture pieces, I was on my knees laying tile and was thankful for the chance to do something myself (with a bit of help of course) other than stain and paint.
So, what will be done next week? Who knows. It is Thanksgiving week and we have family coming in from TX, so we’ll see how much gets done day to day. One thing will be done though, we will be counting the abundance of ways that God has taken us through this project, and recall many good things He has done along the way, and the many great people that have worked on this place that we have had the pleasure of meeting and spending lots of time with.
As usual, go here to check out the latest shots. Thanks for staying with us. It’s getting close.
