Friday Foto #74

What’s that shiny object on the roof of our garage you ask? It’s a corkscrew. Yep, a corkscrew. Why is there a corkscrew up on the roof of our garage you ask? GOOD question. A while back we had a party, and at this party, there were drinks, with bottles of wine being part of said drinks, thus the need for said corkscrew. We had a cart out on the deck holding our stash and acting as “the bar,” and on this bar was the very corkscrew that you see here.

Late that same night we did most of the clean up and finished up the next morning, when we realized that we could not find the corkscrew. It wasn’t that we were starting the morning off with a nice Malbec or Pinot Noir, it’s just that we could not find it and knew it was in use the night before. Our first assumption was that someone had mistakenly taken it home with their belongings and food contributions. Wrong.

Fast forward 9 weeks. Yep, 9 weeks. We had already bought a new corkscrew to replace the one that had “walked off” with someone that night, and didn’t think too much about it. Then one day I was standing at the back door, looking out at the deck and back yard when I noticed some shiny object on the roof of the garage. I went outside, grabbed the ladder and approached this mysterious object, only to learn that it was the missing corkscrew. So, who stole it and who brought it back you ask? GOOD question.

SQUIRRELS. No joke. They are everywhere around here and are notorious for stealing things, wrecking internet service and digging into potted plants as if there were gold bars hidden in the soil. Upon realizing that squirrels were the only real possible culprit in the corkscrew caper, we simultaneously laughed and cursed evil little creatures.

So now we have two corkscrews and a funny story out of it. Drinks anyone?

Did the squirrel corkscrew open the wine I brought to your house? I will just assume so.
