at the salon where I get my hair cut, the very young, clueless receptionist asked “how do you spell quarter?” I thought the same thing my stylist thought because our facial expressions were identical—are you kidding me?

”Q U A R T E R,” responded the stylist, spelling it slowly. Then the genius had to ask him to start over, as she was either writing it down or typing it. Her next words were “Are you sure? That looks so weird.” We both just looked at each other when she said this and shook our heads.

I was amazed and embarrassed for her all at the same time, at not being able to handle a word like quarter. Maybe it was because it was a two syllable word. They can be tough sometimes . . .
