FRIDAY FOTO #79

One word. Antioch. As in Tennessee. We were in a Dollar General. Yep, a Dollar General. I think I was a kid the last time I was in one. We buying drinks to go with some Chinese food that was being made in a restaurant just down the sidewalk. So we are headed to the cash register with our ginger ale and coke, and all of a sudden this dude walks in with a towel wrapped around him as his pants and a serious muffin top. It was creepy.

Of course my immediate priority was not checking out and getting our food down the sidewalk, but somehow getting a photo of this fashionista while he paraded around the Dollar General and proceded to pull UP HIS SHIRT, exposing main ingredient of said muffin top. It was gross.

He had a younger sidekick that could have been an idioapprentice, or apprendiot (you choose which merging of the 2 words you like most) or just his younger brother, late teens in a gigantic Angry Birds t-shirt. It was concerning.

This was the first time I had been to Antioch for anything in YEARS so I was amazed and disgusted all at once at the display that muffin top here put on as he perused most of the store (oh yeah, we delayed our departure a bit just to catch a few extra glimpses of him). The longer he was in there, the higher his gigantic t-shirt rose on his adonis physique, and the more grossed out I became. I renewed my commitment that moment to stay away from Antioch for as long as possible, and I am putting at least a 5 yr term on that committment.

So the next time you are ANYWHERE in the 37013, be sure to have your phone or any camera at hand, because you never know when your day is going to be made, or affected, by some quality people watching and personal entertainment.

As for the Chinese food, I’ve had better.

Friday Foto #68

There he goes again . . . psycho inventor man of course. The (not so of late) weekly Friday Foto feature returns after a brief break from the action—with some fresh inspiration taken from my office window.

It’s just not everyday that you see a man in broad daylight walking down the street with a dolly. And when some action like that happens right out your front window, then a full on investigation must ensue, especially when it relates to this particular neighbor of ours. I have written about him before, so no need to rehash the history we have with him, and if you are not familiar with all of that, let me know and I will fill you in.

Here you see him hauling a bunch of wood back to his house after recent storms caused some trees to come down. Why would someone need firewood in the spring you ask? Well, see his entire back (read JUNK) yard is filled with wood because he burns it year round, and also has a huge fear that he will run out of wood, which I can understand when it is in need at all times. He doesn’t need it so much for warmth this time of year, but for other homeopathic remedies that he cooks up in his home. Have I mentioned that all his windows are covered with foil??
Yeah, he’s creepy.

Keep tuning in for Friday Foto and other posts coming soon. I have a few other goodies as well to share in photographic form, and a video too, so don’t be a stranger.

Just now . . .

at the salon where I get my hair cut, the very young, clueless receptionist asked “how do you spell quarter?” I thought the same thing my stylist thought because our facial expressions were identical—are you kidding me?

”Q U A R T E R,” responded the stylist, spelling it slowly. Then the genius had to ask him to start over, as she was either writing it down or typing it. Her next words were “Are you sure? That looks so weird.” We both just looked at each other when she said this and shook our heads.

I was amazed and embarrassed for her all at the same time, at not being able to handle a word like quarter. Maybe it was because it was a two syllable word. They can be tough sometimes . . .

The entertainment during the entertainment

A few months ago I was at a concert, and had my camera with me. While waiting for the artist to come on stage and perform, this guy ran over to where I was after noticing the seat next to me was empty. No big deal to me—he was a loner, I was a loner—it’s all good. We were both fans of the performer, so I didn’t think anything about it.

Then the music started. And HE started. I was as entertained by him (after my initial thought of him being clearly “unstable”) as I was the guy on stage. I snuck a bit of video of him, and I hope you enjoy it. I am pretty certain that this guy was totally sober too, unlike other guys I have filmed on the sneak before. I apologize for the audio here. It was so loud that the speaker on my camera could not handle it.

It never hurts to have a camera that can capture video in a public setting. Because you never know when some REAL entertainment is going to kick in. Even if it is sitting right next to you.

When the alcohol takes over

Here is a video of a man who is displaying what happens when the alcohol takes over at an open bar event. I shot this a while back while at a concert, and just could not pass up the opportunity to preserve these few precious moments. He reminds me of another man with similar moves in Santa Fe, New Mexico several years back that my friends and I affectionately nicknamed “Michelob,” for obvious reasons. I know video exists of his sweet dance moves as well, though that will have to be on someone else’s blog.

I apologize for the poor audio and less than stellar lighting, but it was shot with an amateur video camera under very dark existing light. Regardless of sound and light, let this be a warning to you—DISPLAY yourself like this in public, and you just might wind up here, for all the world to see. Or, the 5 people that actually follow this blog.
